Calamari Fries are surely a winning appetizer or finger food in any gathering, and with the perfect blend of condiments and sauces on the side, definitely, you will not stop eating it.
Calamari fries are prepared by cutting the  squid, or calamari, into strips instead of rings. They are then dredged into flour or cornstarch, washed in eggwash,  coated with panko or breadcrumbs, and finally deep fried.

Salt and Pepper to taste
Canola Oil for frying

Let's Cook!

  1.  Season flour with garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste.
  2. In three separate bowls, put the eggs, seasoned flour and panko.
  3. Heat canola oil in a deep frying pan to at least 360ºF.
  4. Dredge calamari into seasoned flour, then into egg wash and finally coat it with panko.
  5. Deep fry until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Drain on a wire rack and to remove excess oil, then put in a platter with paper towel.

  8. Share and enjoy!

Pepper to taste
Procedure:
  1. Combine all the ingredients and stir thoroughly.
  2. Set aside, until ready to serve with Calamari Fries.
 Homemade Ponzu Sauce:
1 cup Mayonnaise
3 tbsp. Lemon Ponzu
2 tbsp. Sriracha Chili Sauce
1 clove Garlic (Minced)
Procedure:

  1. In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, ponzu, chili sauce and garlic and mix thoroughly.

  1. I LOVE calamari! We usually order it at restaurants. However, I never tried making it at home. The squid or ika scares me a little... haha! Where do you buy yours?

  2. Same here Cindy! The whole family loves calamari. Same as you, whenever we dine out and there's calamari on the menu for appetizers, we always order one. I buy may calamari/squid at Sam's Club, Pacific Market or Seafood City. The calamari I used in this recipe was bought at Don Quijote, I wasn't planning to buy those calamari tubes, however, I just got off from work and kind of a bit lazy to defrost and clean the I one have in the freezer, so when I saw those calamari tubes, I was thankful. It cut my prep time to almost half.
